History
2007 – 2015:
ROVIS PROJECTS
At Rovis Projects, we were working in the future, expecting the world to join us. The world was not ready yet. First, we needed a big financial crisis to shake things up. From 2007 onward, we developed and tested our vision, embracing innovative workflows, advanced tools, and sustainable methods to revolutionize the construction industry.
By 2017, the vision of Rovis Projects was being battle-tested on some of the most exciting and complex projects in the Netherlands by Digital Twinning, a brand that is ready to lead for decades to come. Would you like to join us?
First, let’s jump into our time machine…
Back in 2007, while much of the construction industry was working with 2D drawings and even paper plans, we were pioneering modern workflows using BIM, 3D modeling, and laser scanning. Our approach was called “modern,” but in reality, we were simply using the tools of our time.
From 2007 to 2013, we developed groundbreaking methods, including prefabricated wooden homes with BIM, green roofs, and designed and realized an adiabatic cooling systems for a data center in Amsterdam which helped them lowering energy consumption for cooling by 50%. By 2012, laser scanning became a game-changer for capturing building geometry. We pushed for open standard file formats to enhance collaboration and applied computational design to optimize efficiency in every project phase.
Our efforts went beyond innovation in tools. Between 2011 and 2013, we created data-driven workflows, like generating steel rebar for concrete structures directly from BIM models, which streamlined production and kept projects efficient. These practices proved that advanced technology and sustainability could work together to deliver smarter solutions.
We use computational and generative design technologies for our designs when possible and working with open standards and promote the use of open standard file formats to realize the best interoperability with our industry partners and suppliers. We combine our skills with fabrication, installing and maintenance and reuse in the back of our minds.
Between 2011 and 2013 we developed a way to generate steel rebar for concrete structures via our Building Information Model. Interesting data driven workflows between the rebar suppliers bending machines and our rebar shape schedules generated from our 3D models were optimized and used to keep production smooth and efficient.
We are always thinking ahead, out of the box, and explore new ways while perfecting our battle proven methods and visions.
2017 – today
DIGITAL TWINNING BV
Digital Twinning BV emerged in 2017 as the evolution of Rovis Projects, sharpening our focus on lifecycle management, digital twin technology, and integrated asset development.
By using BIM as an integral management model, from initiative design to construction and maintenance, it is possible to coordinate complex processes, bring them together in a model and simplify managing them. By integrating the standard design and construction process with the development of a BIM in the right detail for each building process stage, a model specification can be defined and standardized for each phase of the construction process. For impressive projects like the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands with her beautiful organic shapes, the renovation and extension of WTC-Amsterdam, and the realization of the CoolTower in Rotterdam, our BIM expertise helped deliver many solutions for many challenges during these projects, and we can proudly call them battle-tested and improve them daily to stay up to date.
With 17 years of experience, we brought our expertise to some of the most dynamic environments, such as Schiphol Airport. From new piers and terminals to infrastructure improvements, we structured and maintained digital twins and BIM systems while supporting contractors in delivering high-quality, sustainable results. The goal of using BIM was already clear back in 2007: to make the construction process more transparent, sustainable, efficient, and customer-oriented.
At Digital Twinning, BIM is more than a design tool—it is the backbone of lifecycle management, enabling us to connect design, construction, operation, and reuse seamlessly. By integrating digital twins into every project stage, we deliver future-ready solutions that align with today’s needs and prepare for tomorrow’s challenges.
TODAY, TOMORROW AND BEYOND
As we look ahead, Digital Twinning BV is entering a new phase of growth. In 2024, we began rolling out our second phase, focusing on holistic construction processes and advanced lifecycle models powered by digital twins.
We are always thinking ahead, testing new methods, and refining proven strategies. Our goal is to lead the industry through innovation, sustainability, and smarter solutions that benefit generations to come.
Follow our journey as we continue to evolve and show what is possible in 2025 and beyond.
